Exploring Monticello’s Vibrant Arts and Culture Scene

Monticello, Minnesota, boasts a dynamic arts and culture scene that offers residents and visitors a variety of engaging events and initiatives throughout the year.

Art in the Park

One of the city’s most anticipated events is the annual Art in the Park, a juried art and fine craft show held outdoors at Ellison Park along the Mississippi River. This event showcases unique, hand-crafted treasures from talented vendors, providing a one-of-a-kind shopping experience. Art in the Park is paired with the Taste of Monticello, featuring local restaurants and caterers serving their favorite dishes on-site. A shuttle bus is provided for visitors to ease parking throughout the area. This event is truly one of the nicest shows in mid-Minnesota.

GLOWFest

Another highlight is GLOWFest, a magical winter celebration of art, light, fire, and community. Organized by MontiArts, the city’s arts program, GLOWFest transforms downtown Monticello with glowing art installations, illuminated lanterns, and creative pop-ups. The event features a Glow Parade starting at the Monticello Community Center and ending with a celebration at West Bridge Park. Attendees can enjoy music, live performances, and hands-on creative activities for all ages. GLOWFest is free and open to all, offering a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.

Monticello Farmers Market

For those interested in local produce and handmade items, the Monticello Farmers Market is a must-visit. Held year-round, the market offers fresh local foods and crafts, accompanied by live music. The outdoor market features the Power of Produce Kids Club, 55+ day, and special events. The market also accepts SNAP/EBT, ensuring accessibility for all community members.

MontiArts Initiative

At the heart of Monticello’s arts scene is the MontiArts Initiative, which aims to build community through creativity. Located at 213 West Broadway, MontiArts offers a variety of programs, including hands-on art workshops, classes, open studio sessions, and creative programs for all ages. Their mission is to connect local creatives and plan events that weave public and community arts into the downtown landscape.

Monticello’s commitment to arts and culture is evident in its diverse offerings, providing opportunities for residents and visitors to engage with the community and experience the city’s creative spirit.
