Monticello’s Creative Beat: Where Music, Art & Tradition Meet

Art in Every Corner

Monticello is embracing creativity in public spaces. The MontiArts Arts Initiative champions public art downtown: recent installations like the Shimmer Wall and new murals—such as those at the Nordic Taphouse and “The Shoe Project”—are changing walls into vibrant canvases, making everyday walks more inspiring. MontiArts also offers regular workshops, classes, and the open studio at 213 W. Broadway, where artists of all levels gather to learn and connect.
Open Studio runs each Wednesday from 6 to 9 PM—bring your own materials, or use shared supplies and build both art and community.

Festivals that Root Us

Several signature events have become touchstones for Monticello’s arts & culture identity. Riverfest spans three days in July, weaving together live music, a street dance, a parade, art fairs, and food; it draws in residents, former locals, and visitors alike for its hometown energy.
Another highlight is the Art in the Park show—juried fine art and craft on the banks of the Mississippi during Riverfest, accompanied by the Taste of Monticello food fair. It showcases local makers, and it’s one of mid-Minnesota’s most-loved open-air art events.

Sounds & Gatherings by the River

Music plays an integral role—Monticello’s Music on the Mississippi is an opportunity to enjoy live bands in West Bridge Park with river views, food, and local brews. Movie nights, block parties, and GlowFest also fill the calendar, often combining light, art, and sound in creative ways.

How to Plug In

  • Attend an art class or maker workshop at MontiArts to explore your own skills and meet creatives.
  • Visit the Farmers Market—seasonal and year-round—with craft vendors, performers, and fresh local goods.
  • Volunteer or apply as a vendor for festivals like Riverfest, Art in the Park, GlowFest, or Harvest & Hops.
  • Keep an eye out for public art walks—new installations and murals are often revealed throughout downtown.

Monticello’s arts scene is more than occasional events: it’s growing culture you can touch every day. Whether you’re a creator, fan, or newcomer—there’s space here for your voice, your expression, your impact.
